Make your market matter, help the environment today.
About the GREEN campaign:
The federation is striving to become much more environmentally aware and responsible this year. As part of this we are launching our GREEN campaign.
It has been recognised that shopping on markets is much more environmentally friendly than using your local supermarket. Currently issues hitting the news include the food miles debate and the overuse of plastic bags, as well as consumer studies demonstrating that people are being swayed more and more to the greenest options.
Therefore as well as helping the environment, becoming greener really has the potential to boost market popularity.

Becoming GREENER markets and traders:
There are many ways in which you can become more environmentally aware, including limiting packaging on your goods, replacing plastic bags with calico or another more sustainable material, increasing recycling opportunities, and using locally sourced suppliers.
If you work on an a market and think you already fulfil some of the above ideas, why not enter our new 'How green is your market?' competition. Or if you know a trader who is particularly environmentally aware nominate them for the 'Greenest Trader' award.
All these ideas are great ways to get publicity for your market, while helping the environment too!
