About the GREEN campaign:
The federation is striving to become much more environmentally aware and responsible this year. As part of this we launched our GREEN campaign.
It has been recognised that shopping on markets is much more environmentally friendly than using your local supermarket. Currently issues hitting the news include the food miles debate and the overuse of plastic bags, as well as consumer studies demonstrating that people are being swayed more and more to the greenest options.

Becoming GREENER markets and traders:
There are many ways in which you can become more environmentally aware, including limiting packaging on your goods, replacing plastic bags with calico or another more sustainable material, increasing recycling opportunities, and using locally sourced suppliers.

The Competition:
To encourage markets and traders to become more environmentally friendly we set a competition to find both the greenest market and greenest trader. There will be eight awards in total and we will be presenting them at our Parliamentary Tea Reception. This campaign has been judged in collaboration with Friends of the Earth and as such is of credit to every applicant. And even those that didn't win this year have the opportunity to win 'Most Improved Market' next year.
